How It Works

OK Transport is 1 of 34 rural transport programmes around the country,as part of the National Development Plan 2007-2013, having identified that people who lived in rural Ireland were being dis advantaged by the lack of public transport, a nationwide iniative scheme was put in place.

With funding from the Department of Transport and the Department of Social & Family Affairs and through the participation of voluntary community bodies, and the administration of POBAL the seeds for success were sown.9 years later and we have been mainstreamed with the Department of Transport and our passenger figures are increasing year on year.

OK Transport is supported by a committed Board of Directors and Management Committee.

OK Transport operates on a not for profit basis on routes which are presently not commercially viable. We currently sub-contract to licensed local operators who can fulfill the the neccesary Health & Safety requirements which comply and in some cases exceed the current legislation.

OK Transport is a member of the Rural Transport Network, and is committed to ensuring best practice procedures are followed in all aspects of the management and administration of the national programme.
